I’m Rachel Kapelke-Dale, author of the novels The Ballerinas, The Ingenue, and The Fortune Seller (all published by St. Martin’s Press) and co-author, with Jessica Pan, of Graduates in Wonderland (Penguin/Random House). My books have been translated into Italian, Turkish, Hebrew, and other languages.
I have taught at University College London, Hugo House, the American University of Paris, and guest taught at the School of the New York Times, Shakespeare & Company bookstore in Paris, and the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, among other institutions. I served on the jury for the First Pages Prize for several years, and to have been a guest on numerous writing podcasts, including The Sh*t No One Tells You About Writing, where I was honored to discuss pitches with the gang!
In addition to teaching, I’ve also worked as a curriculum designer and academic writer for more than 15 years.
I have my BA (honors) from Brown University, where I studied writing under Meredith Steinbach, Brian Evenson, and Jenny Nichols, and the teaching of writing under Rhoda Flaxman, in addition to serving as a Writing Fellow. I received my MA from the Université of Paris VII and my PhD from UCL.
I currently live in Paris, where I have been part of a weekly writing workshop consisting of award-winning and best-selling novelists for the past eight years. You can find my guides to Paris on Travel Lemming, where I’m a Senior Travel Writer.
I am represented by Sarah Phair at Sanford J. Greenburger Associates.
